Counseling Associates (CA) delivers the highest quality, access and value of 24-hour crisis intervention services at area hospitals and law enforcement agencies for consumers meeting certain criteria.

Coping with Crisis

Signs of a crisis may include suicidal or homicidal thoughts, plans, or threats, self-injury, psychosis, thought disorganization, erratic or unusual behavior, or inability to care for oneself.

Take Action

Contact a supportive person to help you make a safety plan. If you are planning to harm yourself or others, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

After a Crisis

Keep all appointments with your mental health provider. Follow your treatment plan and any safety plans made with your providers. Take medications as prescribed. Monitor your symptoms. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department if your condition worsens.

Find Support

Contact a supportive person and include them in your safety plan. Attend local support groups such as 12-step meetings or NAMI consumer meetings. Meeting times can be found online.

Practice Self-Care

Reflect on your past experiences and coping skills that worked during past crises. Reduce and manage stress. Exercise, eat nutritious foods, and get plenty of sleep. Engage in hobbies. Avoid alcohol and drugs.
